30 weeks pregnant and been on bed rest since 18 weeks!!!
Good afternoon! It is December 27th 2013, I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant with our second son. I would like to share my story of having an incompetent cervix and being on bed rest. I was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix when we lost our first son at 20 weeks on September 13, 2012. It was the hardest thing we ever had to go through and wouldn't wish it on anyone!! It happened really fast and totally not expected since everything had been going so great. I started seeing a lot, I mean a lot of discharge. Enough that I could see it in the bottom of the toilet! The day this started I had an appointment with my doctor so it worked out perfectly! At the appointment I told him about the discharge and he said it was normal and didn't check me. I went a week with this until finally I decided something wasn't right. I called up my doctors office and lied to them saying that I had seen some blood with the discharge. They got me in the next day and he checked me with the speculum. I knew something was wrong because it took him longer then normal. When he was done it was like he was speechless! He told me that my cervix had opened and the membranes were bulging out. He then continued to say that he didn't know what to do and had to talk to a doctor that specialized in this and then walked out! My heart just sank! I never heard of this and didn't know what was going to happen just that it really wasn't good. The doctor came back in and told me I had to immediately go to a hospital that was two hours away were they would examine me and decide to do. They got me all set up to go to the hospital and gave me directions. Surprisingly I was allowed to drive my self. I went straight home to get my husband and tell him what was going on crying the whole way. We packed a bag and called my mother to also let her know what was going on. She decided to come with and actually drove us which helped because we were both so worked up. We arrived that evening and we're admitted to a room around 1 pm. The doctor that I was to see was busy with his clinics so he didn't see me till around 6 pm. He did a check and explained what was happening and that I was dilated to 6cm and part of the baby was down in the part that was bulging out. His only hope was to put me lying with my head down and my feet up to hopefully get the membrane to go back in and possibly have my cervix stitched. What was to happen during the night made us lose almost all hope of being able to save our baby Aaron! Tomorrow I will continue my story.
